Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Junior Certificate Art Work.

Séamus Cullimore

Ceist:

165 Mr. Cullimore asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the tremendous amount of work and effort which is put in by Junior Certificate art students into their art project, he will consider returning their work after the examination.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

171 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the concern caused to students taking part in the certificate examinations, due to his Department's policy of not returning art work, submitted for examination purposes, to the examines; if in particular he will have arrangements made to have three dimensional objects such as pieces of pottery, returned to students who request them; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 165 and 171 together.

The position is that I have instructed my Department to make arrangements so that projects submitted for the Junior Certificate Examination in Art will be returned to students where requested.

It is expected that the projects will be available for collection from my Department's Examinations Branch in Athlone from next October until the end of the year.
Full details of the arrangements for collection of the projects will be communicated to schools in due course.
