Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transportation.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

104 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim has not received school transportation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person to whom the Deputy refers lives only 1.3 miles from his nearest school, and is not, therefore, eligible for free transport. The most that can be offered is concessionary fare-paying transport to the school in question.

This concession is offered, subject to there being spare seats on the bus, after all eligible children have been accommodated. It is also on condition that there is no extra cost involved. This means that concession is available only from the nearest pick-up point, and that there can be no extension to the existing service.
