Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tuberculosis Plan.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

116 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the national plan his Department have to deal with the problem of TB; and if he will make a statement on a recent report that attitudes to BCG vary from area to area.

My Department have recently issued a circular to the directors of community care in each health board which reaffirms the present national policy on BCG vaccination. This is that BCG may be offered to all children at birth and at 12 to 14 years of age if not immune to tuberculosis. It is, however, a matter for each health board to give effect to this policy in the light of local epidemiology of the disease.
