Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - Carrickmacross (Monaghan) Road Development.

William Cotter

Ceist:

135 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the current status of his Department's investigation into the provision of an inner relief road or bypass for the town of Carrickmacross, County Monaghan; his Department's preference; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Last March my Department approved proposals submitted by Monaghan County Council for the appointment of a consultant to undertake a study of the inner relief road and outer by-pass of Carrickmacross. I understand that the council has invited submissions from consulting engineers and that the closing date is 17 July, 1992. The consultant's report on the cost and other implications of the two routes will have to be completed and examined before a decision can be made on which is the better option.
