Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Donegal Farmers' Losses.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

21 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the widespread destruction and loss suffered by farmers in the Glengesh. Ardara and Glencolumcille areas of Donegal on 30 June as a result of a cloudburst and landslides; and if he intends making arrangements to compensate the farming community in this part of County Donegal for the serious losses.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

149 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a special allocation of moneys and resources available to Donegal County Council and the local community in order to alleviate hardship arising from the loss of crops and livestock following a recent cloudburst in the rural areas of Ardara, Carrick and Glencolumcille, County Donegal.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

153 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a special allocation of moneys and resources available to Donegal County Council and the local community in order to alleviate hardship arising from loss of crops and livestock following a recent cloudburst in the rural areas of Ardara, Carrick and Glencolumcille in County Donegal.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

154 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make financial assistance available to the small farmers of Glengesh, Ardara, County Donegal, whose land and hay have been destroyed due to a mudslide on 30 June 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 21, 149, 153 and 154 together.

I am aware of unusually heavy localised rainfall in the areas mentioned on 30 June 1992 and I am having a report prepared on the situation.

There is however no provision in my Department's Estimates to provide aid for such cases in the current year.
