Vol. 422 No. 5

Written Answers. - Four Courts Rent.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

75 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the nominal rent paid by the Bar of Ireland for use of (a) rooms in the Four Courts, Dublin, (b) parking facilities in the Four Courts in each of the last ten years, (c) the amount in each year contributed by the Bar of Ireland to the cost of the provision of services there and (d) the cost of such services incurred by the State.

As I stated in reply to Question No. 31 of 8 July, it is contrary to established practice to divulge details of agreements entered into with other parties, without the consent of the parties concerned. I repeat that the rent involved is nominal.

In relation to the service and other charges metioned by the Deputy in his question, all charges due to the Commissioners of Public Works up to 31 December 1987 have been collected by the Commissioners. The collection of charges since 1 January 1988 and the administration of car parking facilities at the Four Courts are a matter for the Department of Justice.
