Allocation of Time: Motion.

I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders—

(1) the hour at which business is to be interrupted today shall be 12 midnight;

(2) the Sitting shall be suspended from 8.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today;

(3) in the case of the resumed Debate on the Second Stages of the Twelfth Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1992 (Abortion), the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1992 (Travel), and the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1992 (Information) which are being discussed together and speeches in the course of which are limited to 45 minutes in each case, in accordance with an Order of the Dáil of 20 October 1992—

(i) the Minister for Justice or a Minister or Minister of State nominated by him shall be called on not later than 11.30 p.m. today to make a speech in reply which shall not exceed 30 minutes; and

(ii) the proceedings thereon shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 12 midnight today by putting from the Chair forthwith and successively the Questions necessary to bring them to a conclusion;

(4) the Dáil shall meet at 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 27 October 1992 and shall adjourn forthwith at 8.30 p.m. and Parliamentary Questions shall not be taken on that day; and

(5) the proceedings on the Third, Fourth and Fifth Stages of the Bills shall be brought to a conclusion in accordance with the following timetable and, where proceedings have not concluded by the stated time, they shall be brought to a conclusion by one Question in each case which shall be put from the Chair and which shall, in relation to amendments, include only amendments set down or accepted by the Minister for Justice.

While my office did discuss my amendment with your office I understand that on the advice of the Government Whip it was not formally lodged, Therefore, any reflection I may have made on your staff was unwarranted and is withdrawn. My amendment proposes to allow a gap between Committee and Report Stages to give proper time for consultations on any amendments that may arise during Committee Stage.
