Vol. 424 No. 5

Written Answers. - Naval Recreational Facilities.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

21 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the total expenditure on leisure and recreational facilities, including bars and messes, at the Hawlbowline Naval Base, County Cork, over the past five years for commissioned officers and all other naval personnel; and the ratio of expenditure per person by his Department between these two categories on the aforementioned facilities over the past five years.

A total of £247,500 has been expended on major works of a leisure and recreational nature at the Naval Base, Haulbowline, between 1987 and 1992, for commissioned officers and all other naval personnel. This figure does not include the costs of routine maintenance works carried out by the Corps of Engineers during that period on such facilities.

The information sought regarding the ratio of expenditure on different facilities is not readily available and a disproportionate amount of time and resources would be required to determine it.
