Vol. 424 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Schools Survey.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

70 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the goals of the survey being conducted at present in primary schools relating to pupils in need of special help.

I take it the Deputy is referring to the survey proposed in the Green Paper on Education and which is being undertaken by the Special Education Review Committee with the assistance of the Educational Research Centre, Drumcondra, Dublin.

The survey is being conducted in a large representative sample of ordinary national schools and its purpose is to identify pupils with special needs, including those with disabilities. The summary is a first step in a variety of measures proposed in the Green Paper, aimed at establishing an effective basis on which to plan and target resources towards those most in need.
