Vol. 424 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Westmeath Hospital.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

86 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, he has to upgrade the admissions ward at St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar, County Westmeath.

The Midland Health Board is responsible for the provision of acute psychiatric services in Counties Longford and Westmeath. St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar currently provides an admissions facility for the mentally ill in this catchment area. I am aware that it is the policy of the Board to re-locate an acute admission unit for the catchment area at the General Hospital, Mullingar which is in line with the recommendations of the report, Planning for the Future, published in 1984.

Pending the commissioning of this unit, I can assure the Deputy that the admissions ward at St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar will be maintained to an acceptable standard.
