Vol. 424 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork Shopping Centre.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

103 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment the amount, if any, which he has given to the shopping centre at North Main Street, Cork, whether directly from his Department or through Cork Corporation, by way of financial allocation and land.

Cork Corporation has agreed to dispose of land for this shopping centre to the developer. The land had been acquired as part of a larger property acquisition, portion of which is intended for future road construction. I understand from the corporation that the disposal of this land, which is surplus to roads requirements, has been approved by the elected members and, as the disposal took place on a commercial basis, my approval was not required.

On 24 September, I approved a non-Exchequer loan of £3.8 million for the construction of a multi-storey car park which will be owned and operated by the local authority and which will form part of the complex.
