36 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine the present position regarding mussel rafts in Crushoa Bay, Kinvara, County Galway; if these mussel rafts are licensed; if his Department has carried out an inspection to regularise the existing aquaculture activity in the bay; and if so, if he will give details of the results of this inspection.
Applications for licensing of two mussel farming projects in Kinvara Bay are being processed by my Department.
As part of the technical assessment of the projects by my Department a site inspection was recently carried out. The inspection has confirmed that the location of the rafts does not interfere with navigation and the projects have been cleared from other technical and scientific perspectives. The standard public consultation procedure will apply to the processing of the licences in question and this will be set in train shortly.
