Written Answers. - Taxi Meters.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

71 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the charges which are made to taxi owners for checking meters, and other such services; whether the same charges are made to the operators of hackney cars; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under section 83 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, taxi owners are charged a fee for verification and stamping of their meters. The current fee payable is £20 per meter. Operators of hackney cars are not subject to the same charges as their vehicles do not have meters.
