Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Northern Ireland Talks.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

7 Mr. Spring asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement regarding the meetings or contacts, if any, he has had with Sir Ninian Stephen in relation to the Northern talks process.

I met Sir Ninian Stephen, who chairs Strand Two of the three-stranded talks process relating to Northern Ireland, on 28 May 1992, when he came to Dublin to familiarise himself with the issues and participants in the talks process. I outlined to Sir Ninian my view of the situation in Northern Ireland and undertook that the Government would give him every co-operation in his onerous task.

Subsequent Government contacts with Sir Ninian have been through our representatives at the talks.
