Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Businesses Run by Non-Europeans.

Vincent Brady

Ceist:

110 Mr. V. Brady asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the growing concern by the business community at the rapidly developing number of business premises being taken over by non-Europeans, many of whom are considered to be illegal immigrants and engaging in various business activities, but mainly in the clothing and restaurant businesses; and the proposals, if any, there are to deal with this escalating problem which is detrimental to home employment.

Non-EC nationals who wish to establish themselves in business in the State are required to have the permission of the Minister for Justice and any person who is in breach of the law in this area is liable to be prosecuted. If the Deputy has specific information in this regard, I would be grateful if he could bring it to the attention of the Garda authorities.
