Ceist:

112 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of special advisers he, and the Minister of State in his Department, have appointed; the cost of these to the taxpayer annually; and the total cost to date.

There are three Special Advisers in my Department as follows: (1) Ms. Maeve Bracken, Special Adviser to the Minister for Agriculture and Food. She was appointed on 12 February 1992 on a salary of £35,574 per annum. Gross salary paid to date is £27,562.34; (2) Mr. Michael Murphy, Special Adviser to the Minister of State (Mr. John Browne). He was appointed on 3 June 1992 on a salary of £28,000 per annum. Gross salary paid to date is £11,479.78; (3) Mr. Larry O'Loughlin, Special Adviser to the Minster of State (Mr. L. Hyland). He was appointed on 23 April 1992 on a salary of £27,143 per annum. The total cost to the State to date is £17,548.91 (including VAT, PRSI and superannuation contribution).
