Vol. 424 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin Dental Hospital.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

65 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, he has for the Dublin Dental Hospital; if, in particular, he intends to provide funds for its refurbishment on its present site or if the necessary resources will be made available for the Dublin Dental Hospital to relocate to the St. James's Hospital complex; the specific proposals and time-scale, if any, he has in the light of the fire officer's advice that the present building must be vacated within five years unless a major upgrading of the fire safety facilities takes place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question of the future of the Dublin Dental Hospital is a matter for my colleague the Minister for Health. In this connection he is at present seeking to establish a working group representative of the Departments of Health, Education and Finance which would examine a number of issues concerning the Dublin Dental Hospital and related dental training.

This examination will take into account the advice of the fire officer concerning the condition of the existing buildings.
