Vol. 426 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare By-pass Proposals.

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

7 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Environment when it is proposed to hold a public inquiry to examine the proposals for the Kildare by-pass; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Kildare County Council expect to submit a motorway scheme and environmental impact statement for this project to me shortly. I will arrange to hold the public inquiry into the scheme as soon as possible after receipt of these documents.

Would the Minister agree that an allegation made by a local Fianna Fáil councillor recently to the effect that the outcome of this public inquiry is a foregone conclusion, is an outrageous slander on the inspector who will be appointed by his Department?

No more than Deputy Dukes can be accountable for all the outrageous or other statements that might be made by councillors from his party, I cannot say I can manage any better as far as my——

Does the Minister agree that it is outrageous?

It will be an independent analysis.
