I am glad to confirm for the Deputy that:
(1) approval was given last month to the Chairman of the Board of Management to place the contract for the agreed scheme of improvement works at the school in question.
(2) arranging the execution of the works is a matter for the school authorities in this case but my Department understands it is intended some of the work will be completed during the Easter holidays and the balance during the Summer holidays.
(3) work did not proceed on the basis of tenders received in 1991 because the associated costs were regarded as excessive. The revised schedule to be contracted for now was agreed in the meantime after negotiation between my Department and the school authorities.
(4) it is not the practice of my Department to disclose the amounts of grants sanctioned for capital works at individual schools.
(5) the refurbishment works involved include upgrading of toilets, staffroom and of windows, and resurfacing tarmacadamed areas.
