Vol. 427 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - One-Two Income Families.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

7 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Taoiseach the number of families which are totally dependent on one income from work and the number which have both spouses working.

Of approximately 780,000 families in the State about 340,000 or 43.6 per cent have only one person at work, as measured by the 1991 labour force survey. An additional 131,000 families or 16.8 per cent have both spouses at work.

Does that figure include all the family appointments?

How many families do not have anyone at work?

We now come to questions nominated for priority. I call Question No. 8.

Does the Minister of State not have the information I requested?

We now come to Priority Questions. Question No. 8 is addressed to the Minister for Tourism and Trade. Before we proceed, I should like to say, as is my wont, that the questions upon which we are about to embark are Priority Questions, for which 20 minutes only are provided in the Standing Orders.
