Vol. 427 No. 2

Written Answers. - Religious Beliefs of Personnel.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

121 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the religious beliefs of some members of the Permanent Defence Force would impede them in carrying out all lawful orders; his views on whether this is in keeping with the Defence Forces regulations; if not, the plans, if any, he has to assign these members to non-operational duties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The military authorities have indicated that they have no reason to believe that the religious beliefs of any members of the Permanent Defence Force would impede them in carrying out all lawful orders. Religious belief is personal to the individual concerned.
