Vol. 427 No. 7

Written Answers. - Report on Cork Hospitals.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

46 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will release details of the Kenny report regarding the rationalisation of hospital services in Cork city and county.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

47 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health when he intends to publish the Kenny report.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

60 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Health if the Kenny report on hospitals in the Cork area, a version of which appeared in the Cork Examiner on 12th January 1993, accurately reflected the findings in the report; if the Cork Hospital Review Group reflected Government thinking on the subject; if he has studied the report which, because of its scope and recommendations, was the subject of considerable publicity locally; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 46, 47 and 60 together.

The Cork Hospitals Review Group was established under the Chairmanship of Mr. Kevin Kenny to draw up a plan for the development of hospital services in Cork city and county for the next decade. The review group was representative of the Southern Health Board, the Mercy Hospital, the South Infirmary/Victoria Hospital and the Department of Health.

The review group's report was received in my Department in January of this year. I have asked the Southern Health Board and the two voluntary hospitals involved for their views on the contents of the report as soon as possible.

The report has also been circulated to all Deputies in Cork city and county for their information.
