214 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health the reason the hospital development plan in Naas, County Kildare has not proceeded in tandem with the Tallaght Hospital Development, Dublin 24 as originally agreed; if the Naas Development has been affected by Tallaght; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I am not aware that there was ever any agreement that the development plan for the Naas Hospital would proceed in tandem with the Tallaght Hospital Development.
The first phase of the development of Naas Hospital has been completed and commissioned. The remaining stages of the development plan for Naas Hospital will be considered in the context of an overall assessment of the acute hospital service requirements of the area in the light of the facilities to be provided at Tallaght Hospital, the capital resources available to my Department and the competing demands for hospital developments countrywide.
