Vol. 428 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy D. Ahern — the prospect of difficulties in the placement of pupils in second level education in the greater Dundalk area in the coming years; (2) Deputy Sheehan — the future of the branch employment office in Dunmanway, County Cork, and the plans made to fill the position of branch employment office manager in that office which is becoming vacant shortly; (3) Deputy Finucane — whether the Minister for the Marine will approve the Foynes harbour development plan for cohesion funding, as approval is required in order to proceed with the development of the port and to stimulate the creation of extra jobs; (4) Deputy Ferris — the proposals, if any, the Minister for Health has to set up a national programme for treatment of alcoholism which would bring together various strands of expertise in the country; (5) Deputy Barrett — the recent attacks on Irish trucks carrying fish to the French market; (6) Deputy Shatter — the need for sanction from the Minister for Education to construct Knocklyon community school; (7) Deputy de Valera — the genuine and legitimate concerns of farmers, particularly in the north Clare area, as regards liability for injury to persons visiting national monuments on their land; (8) Deputy Flaherty — the current crisis at hospital accident and emergency departments, in particular the circumstances in which a patient (details supplied) with a life-threatening complaint was left sitting on a chair for two hours in a casualty department and lying on a wooden bench for a further ten hours before being admitted to a ward.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputy Barrett, Deputy Sheehan, and Deputy Dermot Ahern.
