Vol. 429 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Grants.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

23 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the submission made by Cavan County Council in relation to county roads, he will give details of the way in which he can reconsider his reduced allocation for county roads for 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The 1993 discretionary grants for regional and county roads were allocated on a fair and equitable basis. The allocations to Cavan County Council under this heading total £3.393 million. In addition to the normal, mileage-related, block grants for improvement and maintenance, this total includes a supplementary grant of £700,000 in recognition of the special needs of that county, as well as £350,000 for pilot schemes, and £500,000 for Interreg schemes. The funds available to me in 1993 for road grants have been fully allocated and there are no funds at my disposal from which an additional allocation could be made to any road authority this year.
