Vol. 429 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bicycle Lights Regulations.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

54 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce appropriate regulations obliging manufacturers and suppliers to sell pedal bicycles with lights affixed thereto in the interest of road safety.

Existing regulations require bicycles used at night to be equipped with front and rear lamps, duly lit. However, because a significant number of new bicycles are designed for use, and are used, primarily during daylight hours, I do not propose to make regulations requiring all new bicycles to have front and rear lamps fitted as standard equipment.
