55 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment the action, if any, he proposes to take on the resolution of the European Parliament of 9 February 1993, calling on the Irish Government to bring the legislation on election replacement MEPs into line with the governing MEPs themselves so that no dispute will occur again as occurred in the case of a person (details supplied).

I propose to take Questions Nos. 55 and 71 together. The legislation relating to the filling of casual vacancies in the European Parliament will be examined with a view to determining whether any changes may be desirable, having regard to the terms of the resolution referred to and taking account of other prospective developments in relation to elections to the Parliament.
