59 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance when Ireland will fulfil its commitment at the Earth Summit and ratify the International Convention on Biological Diversity in view of the fact that Canada was the first industrialised country to ratify this convention.
An Taoiseach signed the Convention on Biological Diversity at the Earth Summit as did all other member states of the European Community and the European Community itself.
Ratification of the Convention by Ireland will require Dáil approval and it is hoped to put the proposal to the Dáil later this year.
