Vol. 429 No. 1

Written Answers. - Voting in Constitutional Referenda.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

67 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce amending legislation and/or a constitutional amendment Bill to allow persons who are entitled to vote in general elections to Dáil Éireann the right to vote in constitutional referenda since a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 was refused it in the recent abortion referendum.

In accordance with the Constitution, voting at constitutional referenda is reserved to citizens of Ireland. I have no proposals at present for the amendment of the Constitution in this regard.
