Ceist:182 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health whether he supports the establishment of a day care centre for the elderly and the infirm at the Cottage Hospital in Bandon, County Cork.
Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.
The provision of health services in the Bandon area is a matter, in the first instance, for the Southern Health Board. The Board's seven year plan for the Development of Services for the Elderly envisages two day care centres being established in the Bandon/Kinsale district.
The Bandon Hospital Fund-Raising Committee has received approval from the Southern Health Board to commence fund raising £40,000 to extend and develop a day room within Bandon District Hospital.
I am aware that there is local discussion and debate regarding the need for a day care centre and the Matron of Bandon Hospital has been asked by the health board to consider proposals for a day care centre at the hospital.
