Ceist:

222 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he intends to require all cultural bodies receiving grant aid assistance to provide a special discount rate for students, the unemployed and old age pensioners; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is aware, admission to the National Cultural Institutions under my control is free of charge to the public.

While it would not be desirable for my Department to dictate the pricing policy of bodies seeking grant assistance, I am most sympathetic to the needs of the groups mentioned by the Deputy and am favourably disposed to the availability of concessions to them. However, I understand that account is already being taken of the needs of those groups by many of the bodies in receipt of grant aid.
