Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Education Green Paper Seminar.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

237 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the number of people who have been invited to attend the Dublin seminar on the Green Paper in Malahide on 19 May 1993; and the number and names of the various organisations and groups invited.

As the Deputy is aware, this seminar in Malahide is a further public seminar in a series organised by my Department in order to promote and facilitate open consultation and debate on all aspects of the future development of our educational system.

As in the case of previous seminars, my Department has sought to involve the widest possible range of interest through:

(a) public advertisement in the media and (b) informing directly a wide range of organisations representing the spectrum of educational, social and economic interests.
Up to 90 organisations were contacted under (a) above and as a result of the public advertising under (b) a number of groups and a large number of individual members of the public have been invited to attend the seminar.
My Department is currently finalising the arrangements for the seminar and I will arrange for a complete list of the attendance to be sent to the Deputy in the next few days.
