Mary Wallace

Ceist:

242 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education if she supports the valuable role played by autonomous student-run facilities on third level campuses; and her views on whether college authorities should take action affecting the independence of these facilities without the full participation and consent of the students.

In reply to Questions Nos. 241 and 242, the position is that I am in favour of such student initiatives. The college authorities, however, have the right to manage their properties as they see fit. In view of this it is a matter for any arrangements for on-campus facilities to be agreed between the students and the college authorities.
