246 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the amount of finance being made available in 1993 for support for schools in developing educational programmes in substance abuse; and the schools to which such finance was provided.
My Department co-operates with the Department of Health and its agencies and with voluntary groups, in a range of initiatives which seek to support schools in developing education programmes on substance abuse.
Finance provided to schools by my Department is intended for overall running costs. The funding of initiatives to counter substance abuse is not provided specifically on the basis of programme costs or by way of cash grants to schools. Accordingly, the information sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department.
