Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ex-Quota Teachers.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

249 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for inclusion in the scheme of assistance to schools in designated areas of disadvantage from St. Mary's Primary School, Buttevant, County Cork (details supplied); and if she will respond positively to the application.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

253 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education if she has received an application for the appointment of a concessionary teacher for Convoy Joint national school County Donegal; if so, when the application was received; and if she will sanction the appointment.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 249 and 253 together.

I am aware that the schools in question have recently applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

As I have recently announced to the House, I am allocating additional ex-quota teaching posts to the disadvantaged areas scheme with effect from September, 1993. As part of this arrangement, additional schools will be newly included in the scheme.

All national schools were recently circularised and invited to apply for inclusion in this allocation. On the basis of information submitted, schools will be assessed and prioritised in order of need.

The applications submitted by the schools mentioned by the Deputies, together with applications received from all the schools that responded to the circular, will be given full consideration in this context.
