Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

John Connor

Ceist:

74 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if, in the terms of reference that established his new Department, he has any role or interest in areas like north and west County Roscommon where the recent census results reveal the worst rates of emigration arising from unemployment and zero opportunity for employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy is probably aware that I am at present carrying out a review of the establishment procedures of county enterprise partnership boards. While the review has yet to be finalised and approved the boards should be operational in the latter half of 1993 and will provide a focus and catalyst for enterprise and small business development.

I am also assured that the IDA has consistently promoted Roscommon for the purposes of industrial development and that it will continue to do so with the full array of supports available.

I also understand that the area benefits from two new sources of funds which have become available to assist business in the area under the Leader programme and the small and community enterprise scheme operated through the county development team.
