Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin and Monaghan Bombings.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

128 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice the current position regarding the Special Garda Squad investigation of the Dublin-Monaghan bombings; if the investigation is still open; its findings to date; and if all possible leads have been followed by the Garda.

I am informaed by the Garda authorities that the bombings in Dublin and Monaghan in 1974 were the subject of intensive Garda investigation over a protracted period of time during which all possible leads were fully pursued. No charges have been brought in connection with the bombings. It has never been the practice to report to the House on the progress or findings of an on-going Garda investigation and I do not propose to do so in this case.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that their files in these cases remain open and that any new information which becomes available will be thoroughly investigated.
