Vol. 430 No. 8

Written Answers. - Annual Reports Publication.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

130 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice if, in respect of each semi-State or other body submitting an annual report to her Department, she will give details of the dates on which the 1991 and 1992 annual reports were received by her and laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas.

The annual report of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board for 1991 was received in my Department on 1 May, 1992 and was laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas on 2 July 1992. The Garda Commissioner's annual report on Crime in 1991 was submitted to my Department in August, 1992 and was laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas on 30 September 1992.

The annual report of the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests for 1991 has been received in my Department, on 16 December 1992, and has been submitted to Government and will be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas shortly.

It is expected that the annual report of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal for 1991 will be submitted to my Department very shortly and will then be submitted to Government as soon as possible.

Section 29 of the Video Recordings Act, 1989, requires the Official Film Censor and the Censorship of Films Appeal Board to submit annual reports on their activities beginning in 1990. Because of the added pressures in the Film Censor's Office arising from the implementation of the Video Recordings Act, 1989 delays have arisen in the preparation of the reports. However, I hope to receive the reports for 1990 shortly and those for 1991 within the next few weeks.
I am informed that the 1992 annual reports of the above bodies are in the course of preparation and will be presented to my Department as soon as possible and when received will be submitted to Government and laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas at the earliest opportunity.
