Vol. 431 No. 2

Written Answers. - UN Peacekeeping Duties.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

37 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Defence the action, If any, the Government is taking to ensure that the outstanding debt to Ireland for UN peacekeeping duties is repaid.

The arrears due to this Department in respect of Irish involvement in UN peace-keeping operations are the subject of ongoing representations to the United National by the Department of Defence and the Department of Foreign Affairs made both bilaterally and in conjunction with our partners in the European Community. I wrote recently to the Secretary General of the United Nations regarding the arrears of reimbursements and will continue to pursue this matter vigorously. The amount currently outstanding is approximately £13 million.
