Vol. 431 No. 7

Written Answers - Heritage Conservation and Development.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

13 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he intends to introduce measures to develop and conserve heritage assets which can benefit international tourism; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is my intention to develop sound policies for the protection and conservation of all aspects of our national heritage. I am aware that there is a growing interest internationally in cultural tourism and that, by taking care of our heritage, we are likely to attract a larger share of this market. However, my primary objective will be to ensure that everything of cultural value which we have inherited will be a source of inspiration to our people and will be transmitted undamaged to future generations.
