Vol. 432 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

96 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a beef grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The application of the person named for grants under the June 1992 special beef premium scheme was rejected when subjected to a computer validation check. The problem has now been resolved and payment will be made within a fortnight. He was paid his grant in respect of his December 1992 special beef premium scheme application in mid May 1993, his 1992 cattle and equines headage scheme grant in mid December 1992 and his 1992 suckler cow premium scheme grant in late December 1992.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

97 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a suckler cow grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Laois; and if, in view of the circumstances of the case, the matter will be reviewed.

The person named applied for 1992 suckler cow premium on 10 cows but admitted that he had only 7 in his ownership and possession on the date of application and had bought in the other three after that date. Under the EC regulations governing this scheme my Department has no choice but to refuse all 1992 suckler cow premia for 1992 and to rule him out of the suckler premium for 1993.

Notwithstanding non-payment of suckler premia for 1992 and 1993, however, the person named will nevertheless still have his suckler cow quota based on the seven suckler cows which were actually in his ownership and possession on the date of application in 1992.
