Vol. 432 No. 8

Written Answers. - Transport Investment Plans.

Seán Barrett

Ceist:

57 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine if, when deciding on an investment policy for the development of ports and harbours, he intends to consult with the British Government with a view to establishing an all Ireland approach; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are ongoing high level consultations with the UK authorities and the European Commission on investment plans for the transport sector generally including ports and harbours. The aim of these consultations is to ensure a consistent approach to the development of transport networks and, in particular, from the Irish perspective to ensure that links with such networks in the UK are adequately developed. Similar concerns arise in dealing with transport links with Northern Ireland.
