Vol. 432 No. 8

Written Answers. - Extension of Bantry (Cork) Pier.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

65 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine when it will be possible for his Department to carry out the next stage of the plans for the extension of Bantry Pier and the construction of the marina; and if finance for this will be provided in the 1994 estimates for his Department.

Bantry Pier is the responsibility of Cork County Council and proposals, if any, for an extension to the pier would be a matter in the first instance for the Council.

I understand that Bantry Chamber of Commerce are promoting a proposal for the construction of a marina in Bantry Bay. It would be a matter for the Chamber to pursue the possibility of securing State financial support towards the cost of the proposal with Bord Fáilte which is responsible for administering the Operational Programme for Tourism and with the Revenue Commissioners in relation to the possiblity of tax reliefs under the BES scheme.
