Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hacketstown (Kilkenny) Garda Station.

John Browne

Ceist:

138 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Justice her future plans, if any, for Hacketstown Garda station; if there will be a resident sergeant in Hacketstown after the retirement of the present sergeant; and the number of Garda personnel in Hacketstown.

Hacketstown is part of the Community Policing Area of Tullow. I understand that the replacement of the Garda sergeant at Hacketstown, who retired on 26 June, 1993, will be based in Tullow Area Headquarters. However, one garda will remain attached to the Hacketstown Garda station.

The question of replacing any member who retires or resigns is a matter for Garda Management who are responsible for the allocation of staffing resources and who make their decisions on the basis of their best professional judgment as to the policing requirements of particular areas from time to time.
