Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Damage to Property.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

151 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the facts of the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8, who is living alone with very little income and whose railings were knocked down by a stolen car being pursued by the Garda, there is any recompense available from her Department for the person concerned; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that local gardaí have no record of the damage being reported. The Garda are, at present, endeavouring to contact the person in question.

I understand that under the terms of an agreement between the Minister for the Environment and the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland, there is provision for compensation in certain circumstances for property damage caused by a stolen motor vehicle.
