As the Land Commission has no responsibility for the registration of lands generally I assume that the Deputy is referring to lands allotted by the Commission and not yet vested i.e. lands for which the documents necessary for registration have not yet been lodged in the Land Registry.
While I am not in a position to give the area of lands involved I am aware that there are some 4,000 recipients of Land Commission land still waiting to have their title vested. Vesting is the first stage in the legal process of transferring ownership of the vested lands. Delays in the vesting process in the main, are caused by legal and/or technical difficulties which usually involve complex title and/or mapping problems. The provision of resources in the Land Commission is subject to the same budgetary constraints as in the rest of my Department. The staffing needs are constantly reviewed and resources allocated within those constraints.
I can assure the Deputy that every effort is being made, within the resources available to have all Land Commission allottees vested in their new lands at as early a date as possible.
