Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Care Policy.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

229 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any, the Government has to introduce a national policy on childcare in respect of working parents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The development of national policy on child care in respect of working parents is being considered in the light of the Government's commitments in the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-1997 and the recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women in this area. I have also requested the report from the Working Party on Child Care set up by the Minister for Labour. This report is being finalised and the Chairman of the Working Party has indicated that it will be submitted by October. I propose to await this report before addressing the commitments of the Government on child care in respect of working parents.
