Vol. 433 No. 1

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

51 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he intends to take any steps to ensure that the 4.5 per cent milk quota cut imposed by the EC Commission is reversed.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

213 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if the Government has made a decision to become actively involved in the case now before the Court of Justice of the EC taken by Irish dairy farmers against the Council of Ministers concerning the 4.5 million gallon milk quota.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 213 together.

The question of seeking a restoration of the 4.5 per cent suspended quota does not arise at present. The matter is at present under consideration by both the European Court and by the Irish High Court. No decision has been made by the Irish authorities to intervene in the case before the European Court.
