Vol. 433 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal Awards.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

37 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons who received compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal in the past five years who were residents of Cork County Borough; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In reply to a question by Deputy Harney of 13 May, I said that in the five year period 1988 to 1992 inclusive, 2,362 awards amounting to £16.816 million have been paid by the Tribunal.

I am informed by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal that the more detailed information sought by the Deputy—specifically, the number and amount paid in awards for a particular county is not readily available and would have to be specially compiled. This could only be done by diverting scarce staff resources from other more pressing tasks and this would not be warranted in the circumstances.
