Vol. 433 No. 3

Written Answers. - HIV/AIDS Services Funding.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

67 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if he will give details on a yearly basis of the budget allocation for HIV and AIDS services; the number of people that avail of these services; the number who died from this disease since the budget was placed under a separate heading in his Department's Estimate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no specific budget allocation for the provision of HIV and AIDS services. The moneys expended on these services are included in the general budget for the health services as the services for HIV/AIDS infected persons are provided at a variety of different levels ranging from institutional to community-based services.

Over the last two years additional moneys have been allocated for specific new service developments within both the statutory and voluntary services. In 1992 the amount allocated was £3.3 million and in 1993 the figure was £4.4 million.

The latest statistics for HIV and AIDS infected persons are as follows: HIV positive: 1375; AIDS cases: 344.
